Antibacterials
Drugs that destroys bacteria or suppresses their growth or their ability to reproduce. Antibacterial drugs are given to animals by injection (intravenously, intramuscularly, and subcutaneously), orally in food or water, topically on the skin, and by intramammary and intrauterine infusions. Antibacterial are easier to give to animals by injection, and the digestive system of ruminants often renders oral antimicrobial drugs ineffective.
Anticoccidials
Coccidiosis is an infectious disease of the intestinal tract of wild and domestic animals caused by different protozoa. These include but are not limited to Isospora, Neospora, Cryptosporidium, and Eimeria of the phylum Apicomplexa. Anticoccidial drugs are widely used as additives in feed and as veterinary drugs for the prevention and treatment of coccidiosis in poultry and other animals. The economic damage caused by coccidiosis in modern poultry production is so serious.
Anthelmintics
Anthelmintics are a group of antiparasitic drugs that expel parasitic worms (helminths) and other internal parasites from the body by either stunning or killing them and without causing significant damage to the host. Anthelmintics are used to treat infected animals. Most anthelmintics generally have a wide margin of safety, considerable activity against immature (larval) and mature stages of helminths, and a broad spectrum of activity. Nonetheless, the usefulness of any anthelmintic is limited by the intrinsic efficacy of the drug itself, its mechanism of action, its pharmacokinetic properties, characteristics of the host animal, and characteristics of the parasite.
Ectoparasitcides
Ectoparasitcides are pesticides designed to kill parasites that live on the exterior of a host. They can be used to treat and/or prevent insect infestations (fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, sand flies or biting flies depending on the medicinal product) in animals.
Vitamins and More
Vitamins are the foundation of balanced animal nutrition. They are essential, irreplaceable micronutrients that are required for normal physiological functions including growth, body development and reproduction, as well as animal well-being and general health status. Expectorants and mucolytic drugs are used to increase the output of bronchial secretions, enhance the clearance of bronchial exudate, and promote a productive cough.
Feed Additives
Feed additives are products used in animal nutrition for purposes of improving the quality of feed and the quality of food from animal origin, or to improve the animals’ performance and health, e.g. providing enhanced digestibility of the feed materials.
